More about this case

Rui Pedro disappeared on 4 March 1998 after walking from school to home in Lousada. The investigation ultimately led in 2011 to the conviction of Afonso Dias to 22 years for complicity in the disappearance. Alcina Dias was identified in 2011 before the court as prostitution contact. Rui Pedro's mother, Filomena Teixeira, is one of the most publicly visible Portuguese missing-persons mothers. During a search in Switzerland, she was institutionalized after viewing pedophilia material — this is publicly documented. In 2003 testimony was given during the Casa Pia trial that a man was seen with Rui Pedro in an establishment for sexual meetings (January 2001) and that the same child appeared in a pornographic film. The lead was rejected by authorities because it did not withstand scrutiny. This cross-case link is the only documented public connection between Casa Pia and an individual Portuguese child disappearance.
